I write this post with a heavy heart and tear filled eye. There isn't much I can do from the other side of this planet. Oh, so much i want to do. To jump out into the flood waters and pull out a drowning child or two. But I can spread the SOS message to the blind world, Cry out to the web world and Hope, just hope that a handful of you hear our cries and come forward with a helping hand or two.
"Children crying all night long, People dying all around.
Chennai crowds cry for warmth, food and clothes.
Chills continue piercing through their wet skin and bones.
City it once was, now just an island under the flood waters.
Some that are ,have water flooded up-to their shoulder
Some that were, had waters much about their heads.
Some are struggling to stay afloat
While others let go of their lives and dead souls.
Silence of the Sorrowful flood, the world needs to know.
Now is the time to act, For love & care to show.
Floods that show no mercy ,beats them up with a vengeance
Media ignores their last dying cry with willful ignorance.
For more important matters it must focus on.
Matters like the rants of celebrities and celebration of the stupidity of politicians pointing fingers to "Global Warming".
When a 8 year old can tell you the cause for the furious waters.
They all stoop down to a new level of low.
But people in their safe dry abodes beat them more so.
Government busy counting the bribes they earned,
Through the sanctions of dangerous infrastructure unplanned.
And projects that destroyed the safety from floods unrestrained.
I cry aloud for the world to hear,
When life itself is at stake,
There's nothing to fear,
Take heed, my friends, our help they need.
Do your best and try just one to feed."
Yet not all is lost, Amidst the crazy cries, there is much joy to see the way ALL , i repeat ALL Chennai-tes have been teaming up and rescuing each other, reaching out and pulling each other afloat. Praise the Lord! Such acts of courage and selfless sacrifices irrespective of any discrimination is indeed a feast for the soul to watch.
So friends, if any of you can help, Please do.
We need boats, we need food, we need manpower, rescue teams, cell phone recharges to call for help and stay in touch until they can be found and rescued. If you are far away, help with monetary funds too...
